Reflection

The artifact I chose to showcase was a lesson plan that followed the I Do, We Do, You Do model. The students warm up to math with fluency activities, one with a whole group and another with a partner activity. Then, we focus on application and concept development in which we dive deep into the central concept of the lesson. Applying the “I Do, We Do, You Do” model, allows me to change the pace of instruction for students so they can experience the concept in multiple ways. If students seem to grasp the concept quickly, I move it to more independent work or add more examples if they are struggling.  I have found that this strategy allows me to best assess and adjust my teaching for my students' needs, while also continuing with the curriculum. Many of my students enjoy the fast pace of Math and look forward to the following activity.

Math - Subtraction to 5 using Number Bonds

Objective: The students will represent subtraction story problems using objects, drawings, expressions, and equations.

STANDARD: (PA Common Core):

K.OA.3 Decompose numbers less than or equal to 10 into pairs in more than one way, e.g., by using objects or drawings, and record each decomposition by a drawing or equation (e.g., 5 = 2 + 3 and 5 = 4 + 1).
